Dear Reader Shares New Single & Video 'Then, Not Now'

The South African artist has put out another slice of her beautiful, orchestral folk-pop sounds. With her upcoming album Day Fever due Feb 24th via City Slang, South African artist Dear Reader is sharing her new single & video 'Then, Not Now'.

The new video was created by Dear Reader herself, aka Cherilyn MacNeil, and Annie Boman. It was filmed in Berlin with the help of a projector, a generator and a 15 year old laptop. MacNeil offered some insight to the making & meaning of the track, "I love the fact that we made an ‘analog’ lyric video to pair with music that was recorded all on tape. The song is about how I have changed since I moved north, almost seven years ago, and the juxtaposition of light and darkness, naivety and cynicism (or realism, depending which way you go). So I feel like it is really fitting that the video portrays my new neighbourhood under the cover of snow and night."

In Day Fever, the raw, melodious, at times discordant record has most certainly retained its life, left fresh and untrampled by infinite do-overs. In fact, each song on the album is the result of just one, or a maximum of two, studio performances. For anyone who has ever discovered new music live and run home, hands shaking with anticipation, only to find the same songs sterile and over-produced off-stage, Dear Reader brings relief.
