Silverbacks Surf The Pink Tide

Silverbacks are continuing their fruitful studio partnership with Girl Band’s Daniel Fox with the propelling new track ‘Pink Tide’ that is out now. Their last three tracks were also produced by after they’d played shows with Fontaines DC, The Murder Capital, The Beths, and more.

Songwriter Daniel O’Kelly says, “‘Pink Tide’ is a song about trendy and stylish revolutions that lack substance and never fully materialise. The chorus is inspired by a YouTube compilation I came across called 'Make Way for The Queens Guard!!!'. It's pretty much the Queen's Guard yelling the video title every time a tourist impedes them from completing their duty. I told Kilian about the video before he went on a short trip to London and upon his visit to Buckingham Palace he shouted out the line. His moment of inspiration wasn't very well received so we made it into a chorus.

Musically, we had been messing around with the outro guitar riff for a few weeks which we initially attached to another demo, poorly named 'Mark E. Smith Eats His Purple Crayon'. In the end we realised that the riff deserved better, and we started writing what eventually became ‘Pink Tide’.”

Mungo's Hi Fi Share 'Babylon Raid'

Glasgow-based soundsystem and production unit, Mungo's Hi Fi, share the first track from their new album, More Fyah, released July 19 via Scotch Bonnet Records. ‘Babylon Raid’, featuring Jamaican reggae legend Max Romeo, is a roots-sampling dancefloor demolisher, and also features UK singer and MC, Eva Lazarus.

Mungo’s new album More Fyah, is a stunning collaboration with Eva and follows the success of their 2017 hook-up on the critically acclaimed Amsterdam EP. A genre-melding masterpiece, it traverses between reggae, dub, dancehall, grime, hip hop and other bass flavours. Eva seamlessly tackles every track with her unique lyrical flow and wide vocal range, matched by Mungo's infectious signature sound.

Raised out of one of the most musically creative cities in the UK, Mungo’s Hi Fi have made a massive contribution to Glasgow’s story with a respectful nod to Jamaican sound system tradition.  Founded in 2000, Mungo’s was formed by two like-minded DJs, inspired by the free party scene but following the Jamaican tradition of King Tubby and Prince Jammy. True to reggae/dancehall’s DIY ethos, they built their first sound from speakers found in a skip and began producing on an old Atari. They started inviting visiting vocalists to their regular nights in Glasgow to hold the mic and then join them in the studio. Following early recordings on London’s Dubhead Records, including debut album Mungo’s Hi Fi Meets Brother Culture, they founded the Scotch Bonnet Records label in 2005.
