Lemaitre Release New Video for ‘Big’

‘Big’ is the latest in the Norwegian-born, Los Angeles-based electronic duo’s collaborations with other expatriates now based in L.A. It came out of an informal, week-long writing camp/jam session that Lemaitre hosted at their Silver Lake home.

“We were all on a Beatles vibe that day and wanted to try something that kind of sounded like that, but also sounded electronic and fresh,” recalls Ketil Jansen, who founded Lemaitre with fellow producer/songwriter Ulrik Denizou Lund. “There are a lot of weird, out-of-tune sounds in the song, but big electronic drums playing the backbeat. For the outro, we played our own brass instruments (we can’t really play), to get a fun vibe going.  The lyrics are about my parents’ late dogs (Ms. Big, and Mr. Small) and feelings around loss, and how someone so small can make such a big impact. It also came out of an idea that you don’t really die until you are forgotten, so if I wrote a song about them, they would kind of still be around.”

The duo’s frequent collaborator, director Johannes Greve Muskat, recalls, “Ulrik and I had an idea to make this video around six years ago and we were finally able to make it. We both love Jim Jarmusch and especially the film Night on Earth, which inspired the video. Ketil and Ulrik play the role of Kharon, ferryman of Hades in Greek mythology. So it’s a crossover episode.  I had a fantastic time making this as everyone starring in it are friends of ours, and we love them for putting up with 104° temps in the car.”

Lemaitre will perform a European Co-Headline Tour run with Dagny, kicking off at Button Factory in Dublin, Ireland.

October 16, 2018 – Dublin, Ireland @ Button Factory
