Menke Unveils Video For 'Nattskärran'

Swedish multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Menke has unveiled the video for her track ‘Nattskärran’, taken from her recently released debut EP, Till Havet, via Size/Cosmos Music. ‘Nattskärran’ is the second release from Till Havet, following on from 'Moln' that was released at the end of last year, with the video being shot in Sicily where Menke spends her summer holidays. The video focuses on the contrasts and dynamics between shadow and light and aims to illustrate the mood of Karin Boye's poetry, with the words for ‘Nattskärran’ taken from one of her poems.

A producer, song-writer and multi-instrumentalist in her own right, Menke creates her own soulful world with small gestures. She plays piano, guitar, banjo, cello, vibraphone, but also more unconventional instruments such as lyre and wine glasses. The video for ‘Nattskärran’ was shot in Sicily where Menke spends her summer holidays and directed by Richard Farman, with the words for the track coming from the poetry about Karin Boye. The video focuses on the contrasts and dynamics between shadow and light, dream and awake, and aims to illustrate the mood of Karin Boye’s poem, a longing towards something different and distant.

Menke was discovered by Steve Angello who signed her to Size. Says Steve of Menke and her music: “Menke’s music represents all things Scandinavian; the beauty, the nature and the melancholy. The first time I heard her music I was almost paralyzed, moved by the obvious apprehension of the world we’re now living in. It’s very difficult nowadays to discover something truly unique, something with its own given place in the universe. But Menke has all that. Her creativity reaches in and touches the deepest parts of my soul. Artists such as Menke need to be made the most of.”
