Paddy Mulcahy Presents Krieks

Paddy Mulcahy is a Montreal based composer/producer from Limerick City, Ireland. His latest single ‘Krieks’ is out now taken from the From Water EP,  out on May 5 via Phases Records. In ‘Krieks’, the voice of Qristina Brooke is sampled from a cassette loop.  Much of the music comes from various stages of experimentation with analogue equipment. Inspired by minimalism and human interaction, From Water EP is an emotional journey, coloured by the use of electronic and acoustic instruments.

The first single, a synthesizer-solo 'You Could Walk Across The Shannon' was written by the Irish composer in his apartment overlooking the river Shannon in Limerick City. It was released in March and premiered on DJ Mag. Reminiscent of Tangerine Dream or other Berlin School artists, the track opens with enigmatic yet vibrant synthesizer patterns that draw the listener in. Sequences in C Minor float around the aural stratosphere, building to a crescendo where the bass comes in.

"'You Could Walk Across The Shannon' is about overcoming the impossible. It's a musical representation of being an underdog in a vicious race; it's the rare ability to walk across a riverbed at low-tide. It is very much about nature and people”. ‘Glasgow’ was written and recorded in solitude and while there is an underlying melancholy in the EP, there are uplifting moments too. The texture between the synthesizers in ‘Six Red Pipes’ create a warm aural blanket that provide solace in this breathtaking new material.
