Daddy Long Legs Tour Dates

Brooklyn, NY-based trio Daddy Long Legs—Brian Hurd (vocals, harmonica, guitar), Murat Akturk (slide guitar), Josh Styles (drums, maracas) have confirmed a run of UK & Ireland tour dates for January and February 2020.

Produced by Jimmy Sutton and engineered by Alex Hall (JD McPherson, Pokey LaFarge, Jake La Botz) at Hi-Style Studios in Chicago, the band’s debut album, Lowdown Ways, features 12 original compositions with songwriting contributions from JD McPherson and Sutton. A new direction from their first two studio albums (released by Norton Records), Lowdown Ways sees the boys widen their sonic horizons with field hollers, gospel, cajun, and Mississippi hill music, coupled with their renowned supercharged, harp-driven R&B bangers.

When asked by Village Voice “What is Daddy Long Legs?,” Hurd answered, “Rock and roll salvation through the spirit of roots and blues.” While influenced by the likes of Son House, Captain Beefheart, Howlin’ Wolf, MC5, and Dr. Feelgood, their sound personifies garage rock and punk with a contemporary raw twist performed in their own brand of supercharged R&B.

Since forming in 2010, the band has released two studio albums, a live album and two 45s on Norton Records. Their last album was 2015’s Rides Tonight. They have toured with Jon Spencer, Hurray For The Riff Raff, The Sonics, Nikki Lane, & Nick Waterhouse, amongst others.

God Damn Issue High Frequency Words

Black Country rock trio God Damn have shared the next track from their freshly announced self-titled album; ‘High Frequency Words’ is reminiscent of The Eighties Matchbox B-line Disaster, it bolts the listener into submission, possessing all the power of a heavy rock classic but encased within a pop framework.

“There is freedom of speech and there is being knowingly, unacceptably offensive. You should balance politics and identity” said vocalist Thomas Edwards, talking about the new single. This has always been God Damn’s charm, but on album three their unique magnetism and rock flair is well and truly honed. They are a band that have come into their own, writing and releasing on their own terms and without submitting to expectation.

At the same time as recording the album, former Catholic chorister Thomas Edward was suspended from his teaching job for destroying bibles. “It really wasn't even that satanic, I felt that little baptised choir boy kick in as I was ‘recycling’ them and said "Lord have mercy on me". A colleague filmed the whole thing and a member of staff emailed it into the school, pretending to be a put-out parent. I think I saw it as separating the state from religion.” Themes of religion, spirituality, society and politics permeate throughout their forthcoming self-titled album out February 14 on One Little Indian Records, with a UK tour to accompany its release.

“I consider it a right of mine to bring these ideals into question, considering my upbringing. How can I debate, and even bash Western pseudo Christian views and get away with it? How dare I? I can because that's MY history to mull over, I'm not sorry if that offends you. As my Catholic grandfather said "God Damn...I'm not sure I can get on with this Thomas, but at least you're not denying the existence of God with that band name"... Okay grandad, if that's what you want to believe...it's just a name isn't it?”
