New Lucy Dacus Song, ‘Night Shift’

Historian is the second album from Richmond artist Lucy Dacus which features her new track ‘Night Shift’. The album is titled Historian and will be released on March 2. ‘Night Shift’ is a six and half minute opus, moving from gently strummed guitar and dulcet vocals to a distorted, throbbing, emotional crescendo.

Historian follows Lucy Dacus’ recorded-in-a-single-day, acclaimed 2016 debut LP No Burden, and idiosyncratic first single ‘I Don’t Wanna Be Funny Anymore’. The remainder of 2016-17 saw Lucy touring the US and Europe, playing her own shows and with friends such as Big Thief, during which the new album was written.

Historian is a huge progression from her debut both sonically and in its themes and scope. Inescapably the lyrics mirror our times, with all its political disasters and assorted heartbreaks, but offer a cautious optimism in the face of adversity, with Lucy’s gift for often impressionistic turns of phrase and unique, expressive voice that effortlessly capture the emotional truth of a moment.
