Album Review : Frankmusik - Complete Me

  • Written by  Rebecca Schiller

Listening to Frankmusik’s debut album Complete Me straight through is a challenge, only because getting past the first track without incessantly hitting the repeat button takes a great deal of self-restraint. ‘In Step,’ possibly one of the catchiest new songs we’ve heard all summer, is a dynamic dance track in which Frankmusik’s versatile vocals take on a Brandon Flowers-like sound, only with a bit more synth.

Followed by songs such as ‘Better Off As 2' and ‘Gotta Boyfriend’, peppy celebrations of love, Complete Me, as a whole, is bursting with lively hooks that are about as vibrant as his bizarre haircut featured on the album’s cover. Down to the lightning bolt “S” in his name, everything about this album has a touch of flare.

This isn’t to say that it’s lacking in substance, though. In fact, ‘Wonder Woman’ is an empowering track about how even Wonder Woman needs some sleep, gets her nails done, and deserves to put herself first. “Behind every Wonder Woman is a pretty lonesome heart,” he sings. “You should do your best to involve it.”

‘Done Done’ might be a bit repetitive, but showcases his falsetto abilities. ‘Time Will Tell’ (which samples the 1987 ‘Put the Needle to the Record’ by Criminal Element Orchestra), keeps a bit of old school house music in the mix.

Perhaps what is most striking about Frankmusik is his ability to keep listeners on their toes. Each song brings something different, and even though it’s drawn some comparisons to cheesy '80s pop, we think that his first album will bring some sparkle to at least some DJ playlists.
