Giuda - Speaks Evil

  • Written by  Debbie Sheringham

Once described as being "the greatest ’70s glam-rock band to have existed since… the 1970s", the boys are back in town with their 3rd long player.

If '70s kitsch is your thing, then you are in for a treat. Although I’m grateful that they decided not to go with the image of platforms and blouses; thusly they are quite easy on the eye.

Opening with 'Roll The Balls', a catchy clappy stompy Glitter Band-esque track.

'Bad Days Are Back' and 'Mama Got The Blues' are pretty much variations of 'Rockin’ All Over The World' by Status Quo.

In fact the whole affair is so kitsch-ly '70s, that my childhood comes flooding back to me; Jimmy Savile (shudder), flares, pickled onion, spangles, Big Daddy v Giant Haystacks, Charlie’s Angels, Alf Garnet, Crackerjack, three day week.. I digress, but you get the picture.

With overtones of early AC/DC / Thin Lizzy and any '70s Glam Rock band you care to mention, to be honest I'm a little disappointed. I was expecting a lot more oomph, and more of the punky sound and attitude that their image suggests. It's a melodic, poppy, catchy and commercial sounding record; that is very well produced.

Highlights are opening and closing tracks 'Roll The Balls' / 'Bonehead Waltz' respectively. I hear that they are a great band live, and they are touring Europe at the moment, so maybe check them out and make your own mind up.

Speaks Evil is available from amazon and iTunes.
