Nai Harvest - Hairball

  • Written by  Will Simpson

It sounds like two cool-ish nerds defied all odds of being the spotty kids the girls run from to become The Clash-inspired sound of Nai Harvest; and in the process have made a very British summer record. ‘Sick On My Heart’ takes me back to a more innocent place, when gardens represented cans of cider and fools in caps, from there we jump in the car and load it up with the booze and camping gear and set off to a massive field in the countryside and get set for a weekend of fueled-up festival life.

By the time we get halfway through I'm spaced out on the catchy melodic vocals and long tone drone guitars; like I'm having a breather and giving my stomach time to settle. This Sheffield duo have made an honest record that captures a perfect picture in time. Maybe even going so far as getting to be the album everyone puts on in the car on the drive back to Normal Street; that one last play reinforcing all the memories of your favorite summer festival.

“You want it you need it, you love it” pop vocals that float around your head as you dance in your circle; 'Melanie' is an indie pop dance floor classic that will stand the test of festival blues. By the time you know about this record all your friends will already know and that’s the way they will remember it.

As far as a well-crafted song goes, these boys have done their homework; with easy listening waves coming out of the guitar and some wise words lyrically the album plays out like a ‘00s classic indie album throwback. A gentle voice that wants to swim in an ocean with me, it’s hard not to fall in love with this record. Catchy pop hooks; tick. Decent vocals and lyrics; tick. Beats to fit the summer festival; tick. The ingredients are all set in the mix and then Nai Harvest are sent out into the world to keep the army of festival goers dancing late into the afternoon in true indie pop culture. Think the stone roses meets feeder and join up to beat the shit out of The Beach Boys for making everything too easy. Or maybe not, either way it’s a great summer record.

Hairball is available from amazon and iTunes.
