Twin Atlantic - Great Divide

  • Written by  Emma Lawrence

Twin Atlantic are back and they are better than ever.  After three years of waiting, Great Divide is here and it’s a rather good listen. Filled with stadium rock tracks as well as slower songs, these lads know where they want to be and how they are going to get there.

Opener, ‘The Ones That I Love (intro)’, shows off Sam McTrusty’s recognisable vocals and although it’s a slow song with melodic pianos, it sets up the album in a lovely fashion.

Next up is single ‘Heart and Soul’, this is what Twin Atlantic sound like. Filled with big guitars and pounding drums, the group are doing what they do best and it has a chorus that they will surely hear being sung back to them at many festivals this summer.

Another stand out track was ‘I’m an Animal’.  It is much in the same vein as 'Heart and Soul', and I can guarantee that when you hear it, it will be stuck in your head for days (trust me, I’ve been singing it to myself and getting some funny looks!)

But it’s not just fast, rock tracks the band do well, Twin Atlantic have a knack for writing a ballad too. ‘Oceans’ and ‘Be A Kid’ are lovely songs and give a good break from the ‘stadium rock’ style the Glaswegian four piece seem to have perfected.

Songs like ‘Fall into the Party’ and ‘Actions that Echo’ give you a real idea of what’s to come from these guys. You can see the Foo Fighters influence from esteemed producer Gil Norton, which is most defiantly not a bad thing.

Overall, it's been worth the three year wait for Great Divide, even if you aren’t the biggest Twin Atlantic fan, I would urge you to buy this album. There really is something on it for everyone, from rock to more poppy tracks. 2014 could be Twin Atlantic’s year, and why not? Scotland needs new kings of rock and by the looks of this, they have the title in the bag!
