Various Artists - Isvolt

"Whose house?" Er, Witch House apparently. Just as I finished typing that though I got it – this stuff all sounds like the incidental music to The Blair Witch Project. I'm prepared to be corrected on the derivation of the name though (seeing as it can also be called Drag and I'm stumped for ideas on that one). Apparently being "developed in bedrooms all around the world", it certainly has that feel of being put together by dedicated, Goth loners.

Tracks one and two (the first by someone employing 3 symbols not available on my keyboard as a name, the second by PARTY TRASH) do pretty much sound straight off the aforementioned OST although PARTY TRASH's 'Sky Clad' features the hook of some barely discernible vocal sample. Fostercare's 'Cold Light' comes as bit of a relief then with it's employment of some drum sounds and Bauhaus-like vocals. 'Versus Man' from Houston's //TENSE// moves things further into an Industrial vein and appears to sample the Gunnery Sergeant from Full Metal Jacket putting the troops through their paces, amongst other things.

Modern Witch's practically spoken word 'Your Life A Movie' is like a dose of nembutal in sound form. Mater Suspiria Vision (either from The Netherlands or Afghanistan depending on whether you believe Google or MySpace) have, as their name suggests, a bit of a 1970's Italian horror film thing going on. Their 'Ritualzz Of The Crack Witches' isn't likely to get you up and dancing but you should check out their videos elsewhere online. ///HORSE MACGYVER\\\ are on the evidence displayed here only notable for their name as 'Nod' is the musical equivalent of heavy breathing down the 'phone. They've a fairly involved MySpace page so further investigation on there may pay dividends.

White Ring sound like an evil version of Ladytron with elements of M.I.A. on their contribution 'lxC999', which has a certain amount of grim charm depite apparently featuring the lyric "And my face is gone" followed by a gunshot. Lastly we get Raw Moans with 'Nectarine', the most sane sounding song of the nine on offer. In fact it's practically pop compared to the others. Maybe he's a warlock and not a witch ...
