Too Pure Singles Club : Seasfire - Falling

  • Written by  Kenneth McMurtrie

New year, new Too Pure Singles Club - twelve 7"s in a number of colours hitting the hall doormat throughout the year. With the advent of mp3s you don't even need to play them as you're emailed virtual copies too; keep them pristine for your heirs! Sell them for vast profits and buy a small island! The choice is yours ...

Just plain ol' black vinyl this month for the Bristolian quartet's release but what's wrong with a bit of tradition?

Musically 'Falling' is a lush, breathy slice of piano backed balladry that manages to rise above the Maroon 5 level that the opening few bars might suggest to you. There's a depth to the background production early on that hints at more guts being behind the work and as things progress and the sound fills out this is pretty much realised but proceedings tail off just as they seem to be getting going. A song that showcases evident promise however.

The B-side remix by Zaffre Janvier dispenses with some of the depth of the original but doesn't totally bury the tune in lightweight house beats, instead leavening things with the occasional bit of dirty bass. No real lengthening of the track occurs though and again there's that tailing off.
