Reverieme - Or Else The Light EP

  • Written by  Zoe Wallbank

Reverieme has released her debut EP Or Else The Light, and my God, it’s good! After an interesting start in music, originally teaching herself how to play the guitar with her nose, she has developed into an incredibly talented artist, who is definitely one to watch.

Each track has its own story, strong enough for each track to stand alone, yet they still flow flawlessly into one another.

The opening track ‘Venus’ sums up the style of this EP and Reverieme well. It has a lovely, calm, acoustic melody opening leading into soft breath-taking vocals, accompanied by beautiful imagery in the lyrics, this track has you swaying along without even realising it. She does the happy calm song well, ‘Golem’ being another example, yet her strongest tracks are heavier.

There are some right out heart-breaking songs like ‘Outside’, which haunts the listener long after it’s finished; and ‘Nocturnal Babe’, a heart-wrenching tale of the pain of losing a baby shown through lyrics such as: “Cling to the hope that life could be fairer.”

That being said, without a doubt her strongest style is heart-breaking lyrics contrasted with a happy melody, which features heavily on this record. ‘Plankton’ starts with a happy melody but is meet with the lyrics “Good afternoon sir / I’m sorry to be sharing this news” leading into a more upsetting tone. As does ‘Datun’, a very emotional story-led track with heavy lyrics such as: “Safety wasn’t easy to come by / With no family” and “He’s never known love / All he’s ever known is how to fight back”, that has a light acoustic melody.

Overall, this EP is incredible, a true credit to her talent, and I can’t wait to see how far she will go.

Or Else The Light EP is available from Amazon and iTunes.
