Album Review: Double Dagger - More

  • Written by  Kenny McMurtrie
Sharing the title of their third album with an early Pink Floyd release may have been a deliberate irony on Double Dagger's part and track one of the 10 on offer ('No Allies') does at times mimic the older band's 'Nile Song' and is certainly as weighty. Things calm down immediately though on 'Vivre Sans Temps Mort' with its gentle accordion-like opening couple of minutes then from that point we're into Fugazi-like territory as the guys whip up a storm of politically conscience punk rock action. After that things are firmly in the same vein on 'We Are The Ones', get a clearer treatment on 'Camouflage' (not the Stan Ridgway song but if only, then once more back to loud and martial on 'The Lie/The Truth'. 'Surrealist Composition With Your Face' drags you into a groove similar to what you'd get by splicing Black Flag and Joy Division's collective DNA together. A good place to be.

After this things return to the loud/quiet/loud-formula but are never less than interesting so that shouldn't be viewed as a criticism. By the time things are brought to a close by 'Two-Way Mirror' you'll be reaching for the repeat button.
