Doldrums New Video & Album

Montreal's Doldrums returns with new album & single. The album features collaborations including Petra Glynt and Tobias Rochman of Peleda, and was mixed by Matthew Otto (Majical Cloudz). Doldrums’ Airick Asher Woodhead explains the 'Runner Up' video when he said: "We shot it in my apartment with one of my best friends. The idea was to show the skin out of context, as sort of alien. The way it turned out you don't know whether it's seductive or gross, I'm fascinated by stuff that walks that line."

Speaking about the forthcoming release, Doldrums sent the following message to his fans; “There is a new Doldrums record . Made it in Montreal, mostly by myself. Took some time off traveling n hung out with the ppl I love, going out all night and coming back to the Torn to sing in the mornings. Petra Glynt and CCB helped work out the jams for some live shows with the roto toms and electribe, and from there edited it together from hundreds of hours of material.”

Doldrums appeared in 2010 with a series of noisy, percussion heavy tracks and collaged videos that challenged digital identity.  Since then the project has oscillated between pop and noise, following singer Airick Asher Woodhead through two LPs, seven singles/EPS, a VHS, two Boiler Room performances, as well as various live performances over the world. E s c will mark the third step in Doldrums' album collection, following on from 2013's Lesser Evil and 2015's The Air Conditioned Nightmare. It is set for self-release on June 30th.

Ani Glass Releases 'Ffrwydrad Tawel'

Cymru pop star, and former singer with The Pipettes, Ani Glass released her new EP, Ffrwydrad Tawel, last week through Recordiau Neb. Today she reveals the majesty of ‘Dal i Droi’ (Another Day), with its bubbling synths and infectious vocal hooks, might sound like Ani’s unique collision of euphoric euro pop and synth wave of the 1980s (Human League, OMD) balanced by more weighty thoughts of mortality.

Ani Glass is the persona of Cardiff-based electronic pop musician, producer, artist and photographer, Ani Saunders. The ‘Ffrwydrad Tawel’ EP’s six electrifying, infectious, socially conscious electronic pop songs are a document of Ani Glass’s artistic evolution invested with grander themes. “It's about reconnecting with my language, history and culture after returning home having been away for years" explains Ani “the songs are a snapshot of this journey of self discovery.”

‘Ffrwydrad Tawel’ is named after Ivor Davies’ major exhibition Silent Explosion/Ffrwydrad Tawel held at National Museum Cardiff in 2016. Ani Glass was inspired by his use and mix of the Welsh language, bleak colours and destruction to reflect society in Wales and was later invited to perform with him at the museum as part of this exhibition.

The ‘Ffrwydrad Tawel’ EP’s six electrifying, infectious, socially conscious electronic pop songs are a document of Ani Glass’s artistic evolution invested with grander themes. “It's about reconnecting with my language, history and culture after returning home having been away for years,” explains Ani “the songs are a snapshot of this journey of self discovery.” Recorded in Cardiff and produced by W H Dyfodol (Haydon Hughes) throughout 2016 and the early part of 2017, the songs demonstrate “the fight within yourself to address larger, more pressing themes in society whilst battling the reality of everyday life.”

The EP comes with a booklet of Welsh/English lyrics and artwork designed and created by Ani. Ani is also known for her work with The Pipettes, joining in 2008 to record the Martin Rushent-produced Earth Vs. The Pipettes album. Prior to her stint with the polka-dotted pop band, Glass was in Genie Queen, managed by OMD’s Andy McCluskey. She also fronted The Lovely Wars, who recently posthumously released two singles 'Gwrthod Anghofio' (We Won't Forget) and 'Cymer Di' (Take) in celebration of Welsh Language Music Day.
