Salad Undressed At ABC Glasgow

After 20-odd years of being in complete denial about ever reforming, Marijne and Paul found themselves in January 2016 finding the idea of going out on the road as a two-piece, (just like they did in the late ‘80s as The Merry Babes), really quite appealing. They wanted to play the classic Salad hits and some rare B-sides and odd-scurities, acoustically. What to call themselves? The Merry Babes again? The MBs? Salad Unplugged? Ah yes…let’s pun the hell out of this one…Salad Undressed….

Live, they are not fully acoustic though…fuzz guitar and an old fashioned Melodica are also employed. ‘Being Human’ is the first single since Salad released ‘Yeah Yeah’ in 1997. It is the first track from their upcoming album Good Love Bad Love. It is a poignant and reflective song. It deals with the idea of pulling together in this life. It also drives along like a freight train in the dead of a hot summer’s night.

Written the morning after the gig the night before, Marijne wakes to hear’s Paul strumming the guitar and singing the refrain “Being Human”. Marijne falls out of bed, almost tripping over the bedsheets to get in on the action. They trashed it out and 2 hours later the song is writ…

Salad Undressed are currently gigging as a two-piece and will be appearing on the Star Shaped Britpop Festival Tour with Sleeper and The Bluetones.

Finnish Alt Metallers Skein Release Deadweight

Released on September 22, Deadweight is the second album from the Finnish metal band Skein. Assembled with the invaluable help of producer Tuomas Kokko (Ghost Brigade, Swallow the Sun), Timo Rautiainen & Trio Niskalaukaus, the album moves dynamically across different soundscapes, reaching from crushingly heavy guitar riffs to more ethereal, atmospheric parts.

Unlike their debut album, Of Wings Unfolding, which was a concept album with a strong narrative and a storyline (strenghtened by a novel published alongside the physical copy) the songs on Deadweight stand on their own. Delivered with both screaming and clean vocals, the songs explore issues from misuse of power and societal responsibility to basic human characteristics, with very personal experiences. Due the rawness and personal approach, the album is the strongest emotional outburst of Skein's career.

Skein formed in 2004 in Tampere, Finland, and have focused on its own blend of atmospheric metal with fierce determination and perseverance. Before Deadweight, the band released their debut album in 2014. The concept album was accompanied by a novel depicting the story behind the music and received positive feedback from media and fans alike. The band's discography also consists of three EPs (Children of Light in 2012, The Key I-III in 2011 and self-titled debut EP in 2005), as well as a digitally released single ‘Rapier’ (2016).
