Pysch-Synth Sounds From Cardiff’s Gulp

Cardiff-based band Gulp, made up of Guto Pryce (Super Furry Animals) & Lindsey Leven are back and sharing new single ‘Morning Velvet Sky’. Mixed by Luke Abbott, the track is taken from their new album, which is coming out in early 2018 with more details to be announced soon. In the words of the band "‘Morning Velvet Sky’ is a song about dawn, with arpeggiating machines. The intent of ‘Morning Velvet Sky’ is to wrap the listener in a blanket of the fuzzy feeling created by waking up on a warm dewy morning and having appreciation for the beauty in nature when things may not be perfect."

After touring across the UK this summer with festival shows at FOCUS Wales, Sea Change, Festival No. 6, End Of The Road, Kendal Calling, Liverpool Sound City and more, ‘Morning Velvet Sky’ is the latest instalment of Gulp's luscious psych-pop sounds and a hit of what to expect from their next full-length next year. The single is available now digitally and on December 1 on 12” Vinyl via E.L.K. records.

Originally from Scotland, vocalist Lindsey moved to Cardiff to where she met Guto Pryce at a Christmas psych party– a joining of kindred spirits in a city with an ever-evolving arts scene. It was there that the foundations of Gulp came to be as the two joined forces to create this musical venture; the band name coming from a play on words of combining both of their initials.

Gulp make warm, fuzzy, luscious pop by combining ethereal sounds of both acoustic and electric drums and synths. Their music is like a road trip; the landscape and events along the way, filmic scenes and melodies – from the sun-squinting, flickering saturation and lens flare of the Californian desert, to the gloamin of rural Scottish and Welsh homescapes. The pair are joined by permanent member Gid Goundrey on guitar and various friends on drums including Stuart Kidd (Euros Child/Norman Blake), Kliph Scurlock (Flaming Lips/ Gruff Rhys), Gwion Lleweyln (Meilyr Jones), Dave Newington (Boy Azooga) & others.

Debut Single From The Yada Yada Yadas

The Yada Yada Yadas have been described by BBC Introducing as one of the hottest bands from the North-East of England right now. Fresh from supporting UK Britpop legends Cast on tour, the band is very much for fans of Wavves, Yuck and Dinosaur Jnr. This Influence runs deep into the bands identity, transcending just music, visible in everything from the Seinfeld inspired band name, through to the lyrics of the bands debut track ‘Oceans’, which playfully references Bill Hicks during its three minutes of anti-summer fuzz. Now signed to Silent Kid Records, a debut EP is due in January. ‘Oceans’ is the first single from this.

The Yada Yada Yadas are a recently formed Durham-based alternative rock band that have truly mastered the craft of writing beautifully silly pop songs, and burying them deep beneath piles of dirt, feedback, and uncompromisingly creamy fuzz. Influenced by bands such as Pavement, Neutral Milk Hotel, and The Flaming Lips, it’s clear to hear the noisy alternative U.S influence upon the songwriting of vocalist/guitarist Mark Owens. The eccentric and painful irony of the lyrical content within bands catalogue of songs pulls expertly from the Stephen Malkmus, Jeff Mangum, Wayne Coyne school of twisted imagery, in a borderline nonsensical stream of consciousness style. Lyrically and musically, the band are obsessed with the idea of letting the listener dig through the messy surface of noise, to discover the simplicity of the pop gem that lies within each track for themselves.

‘Oceans’ provides an opportunity to glance for the first time into the bands upcoming EP Way...No Way… There’s a beauty in opposites and The Yada Yada Yadas are both pragmatic and ethereal, they builds and burn, leaving you wanting more… It’s a love letter and a breakup in three minutes leaving many questions unanswered.
