Mnek Unveils New Video For Tongue

Mnek is the host of a very special dinner party in the official video for his new single, ‘Tongue’. The clip was directed by the incredible Bradley & Pablo (Charli XCX, Frank Ocean, Migos, Cardi B). ‘Bradley & Pablo hit me up on Instagram around the time I was finishing the album and I was already a huge fan of their work, so it really was amazing to get to collaborate with them for the “Tongue” video. It’s set at a dinner party and alternates between reality and fantasy to capture this unspoken tension between me and this guy. I wanted to challenge black masculinity in a fun and sassy way. I’m dancing in the video, which I’m excited about! I also got to have my friends in it, like Becky Hill, A*M*E and K Stewart for the dinner party! It’s my favourite video, and I had the best time shooting it!’ Mnek explains.

The UK’s most prolific pop polymath will release his debut solo album later this year, with ‘Tongue’ having received its world premiere on Radio 1 as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record. Sounding like Bobby Brown’s creative peak reinterpreted through the technicolour glow and wit of RuPaul’s Drag Race, ‘Tongue’ is the mark of Mnek planting his own flag firmly in the sand as one of the most important and talented artists in modern pop.

Still only 23 years old, Mnek has already clocked up an astonishing ten years in the business, having signed a publishing deal aged just 14. With his early material like ‘Never Forget You’ and wider collaborations, he has an impressive 1 billion streams to his name. The list of people he's written and produced for along the way is hard to quantify - Beyoncé, Dua Lipa, Little Mix, Madonna, Diplo, MØ, Rudimental, Julia Michaels and Stormzy to name but a few. Now is the time for Mnek to take centre stage, with 'Tongue' suggesting a talent whose focus is now firmly on his career as the UK's most essential popstar.

New Portals Inch Into Film Soundtrack

New Portals have released the video for their brand new single, ‘Inch’. The track is the official theme song for the forthcoming feature film, Faces, from the award-winning director Joseph A. Adesunloye. The video features exclusive footage of the forthcoming film coming out this autumn. Faces is a multi-narrative film set across four storylines that follow a group of characters as their lives begin to unravel.

The movie features high profile actors from both music and film. It sees Shingai Shoniwa of The Noisettes playing her first major film role, while also including the Oscar-winning Terry Pheto (Tsotsi, Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, A United Kingdom), Aki Omoshaybi (The Riot Club, Kids In Love, Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Suzette Llewellyn (EastEnders, Coronation Street, Holby City) and French actor and model Matthieu Charneau (The Bastard Executioner).

‘Inch’ and Faces director Joseph A. Adesunlove says, “I was both honoured and excited to work on this project, most of all I think people will find it relevant to their lives and that has to be the most important achievement that all the people who have poured themselves into this project can hope for. I believe ‘Inch’ captures the mood of the film beautifully and I am very proud to have it as the official soundtrack.”

‘Inch’ is a stark tale of heartbreak from New Portals and features dark pulsating bass among atmospheric synths and smooth percussion clicks. The song is the latest to feature in a number of film and TV syncs for the band. Their previous single ‘Chasing Shade’ was recently featured in Striking Out, and their single ‘Cage’ formed the soundtrack to the award-winning film, She Has A Name, last year.
