Jenny Wilson’s Harrowing New Video

Jenny Wilson today releases the new video for her latest single ‘Lo’ Hi’, which arrives just ahead of forthcoming album release, Exorcism, due out April 20, via Gold Medal Recordings. Having previously collaborated with contemporaries including Robyn and The Knife (to whose Rabid Records she was previously signed), Exorcism will be Wilson’s fifth studio album, and her first since 2013’s Demand The Impossible!, which won three gongs at the Swedish Grammi awards.

An intensely, unflinchingly personal album, Exorcism deals with the harrowing aftermath of Wilson’s own experience of sexual assault. As its title suggests, the record - geared around her Prophet 6 analogue synthesiser - finds Wilson seeking to divest herself of the recurrent traumas of her attack.

Shot over the course of a sub-zero February night in Stockholm, the new strobe-lit clip for ‘Lo’ Hi’mixes footage of Jenny with graphic animation sequences to brutal effect. Directed by Gustaf Holtenäs, the video intersects with the previously released animated film for Exorcism’s lead single ‘Rapin*’ (also shot by Holtenäs) ,which premiered earlier this year via the Gothenburg Film Festival.

Jenny has issued the following statement about Exorcism;

This is the most difficult thing I’ve ever done.

In so many ways.

At first, I actually didn’t know if I even wanted to go on with music anymore.

Then, something terrible happened to me.

I ended up at a crossroads.

Either silent  -  or speaking.

It was not an easy choice.

I didn’t want to talk.

I didn’t manage to talk.

But I had to talk.

Not to bring justice or to take revenge.

Nothing is ever as easy as it seems.

I wanted to take back what I’d lost.

I had to get rid of what was hurting me.

Watercolours Vivid New Single

Mixing psychedelia with ambient indie rock and trip hop bass lines, Watercolours are a three-piece outfit from Cheltenham with a playful genre-crossing sound that continues to delight with every new release. On their latest single, ‘How Do You Feel?’, the listener is enveloped in a world of tropical atmospherics and space age sonics, where clipped beats collide with glistening pin-point guitars designed to prickle the hairs on your neck.

Watercolours may have only been together less than a year, but already their iridescent forward-thinking indie pop has begun to appear on many a radar. With BBC Introducing session invites, praise flurrying across the blogosphere, plus a sit-down songwriting session with the singular Blur/Gorillaz talent Damon Albarn.

Having met at University as friends long before Watercolours was ever conceived as an idea, the group have a natural and solid sense of identity between them. Focused and determined to reach ever new heights with their boundary pushing sounds, the trio have spent the last year rehearsing and writing material, planning their next move. Drawing influence from bands such as Foals, Beach House, Real Estate and Wild Beasts, the group pride themselves in their ability to create a big sound both live and on the record with new single ‘How Do You Feel?’ a testament to just that.

You can catch the band at a series of shows throughout March and April:
