Richard Jahn Is Stranger Than You

Following the release of ‘Catch Me If You Can’ last month, London-based Richard Jahn has unveiled his debut EP, Display:Orange and a new single entitled ‘Stranger Than You’. Always taking the listener on a uniquely cinematic journey, the latest release sees Richard contrasting a hook ridden vocal reminiscent of ‘80s funk and disco with the daring eccentricities of the track’s soundscape.

‘Stranger Than You’ has arrived straight off the back of a sold out vinyl launch at London’s Off The Cuff, and with equal measures of intensity poured into each facet of the record, it promises to truly challenge what’s expected from a debut.

Written at a time when he was still living at his parents’ house, Richard was forced to assess ‘the ugly strangeness and wonderful strangeness’ of his personality whilst feeling estranged from his friends in London. ‘Stranger Than You’ is surrounded by trademark embellishments as Richard explores his idiosyncrasies with each line, boasting two sides of a coin, ‘comfort and alienation’. Inspired by ‘a close relationship with a person who consciously and unconsciously finds it hard to come to terms with who you are’, testing every ounce of patience in the relationship, ‘it's a winding journey, that we work through if we care enough, or fall apart if we don’t.’

Asylums Pledge Support For #Saveroadhouse Campaign

Following the distressing news that The Roadhouse, one of Covent Garden’s oldest live music venues, faces eviction, the venue has curated a month of live gigs to raise awareness of the risk of closure, whilst also using it as an opportunity to further enrich the programming and support emerging and breaking new musical talent. Every Tuesday and Thursday throughout April, The Roadhouse will host #SaveRoadhouse - a free live early-evening music night featuring performances from some of London’s best up-and-coming musicians, with headline performances from:

The Wholls, having just concluded a sell-out UK tour, straight from having extensively toured Europe. Becoming one of the UK’s most exciting live music acts, their performances at the likes of Reading & Leeds festivals, Isle of Wight and Y Not Festival put them firmly on the ‘ones to watch’ map for 2018. Support comes from the equally sizzling-in-the-industry, Hello Operator, Bristol boys Fossette and Tom Forest.

China Bowls, a fusion of neo soul, blues and hip hop influences. She is a regular on the live scene and has played across the country, from Bristol's Colston Hall to Glastonbury, Boomtown and Bestival. She’s received Wordplay Magazine’s Amplify Artist of the month, as well as rave reviews from Drunken Werewolf and Live Magazine’s Mustafa Mirreh. Support comes from Romances and Manchester's Chloe Foy.

Asylums, building on gigs at Glastonbury and Reading and Leeds, with big love from Radio 1, Radio X and BBC 6 Music (‘Album Of The Day’), they are originally described as “Blur if they were raised in Seattle" or “the excitement you felt when you first heard Buzzcocks or Manics”, their development has taken them into the same epic sonic space as Foals or Arctic Monkeys – a combination of anger and experimentalism, of whispered secrets and musical mood swings. Support comes from Suspects and the Mick Jones' authenticates Tom Bright & The Dynamite.

Gabi Garbutt & The Illuminations, was hand-picked to support The Libertines on their seaside tour, after striking up a friendship with bassist, John Hassall. The two collaborated on her most recent single, however this show will also double-up as a single launch for new release, Lady Matador. Support comes from Penny Mob and The Severs.

KYLPSO, honing their craft performing at various club nights across London in the past year, the Bow three- piece consisting of Tom Greenwood, Hugh Fothergill and Rudi Falla have been forming a distinct sound in their east London studio with the songs translating into a vast and expansive live show.

Jungle Brown, celebrated for their dynamic approach to hip-hop, the three member group recently debuted at number 13 on the iTunes Hip-hop chart as well as charting internationally across Europe. They have been performing shows ever since and shared the stage with the likes of Ghostface Killah, EPMD, Big Daddy Kane, De La Soul and Prodigy to name a few.

Entry will be free, with the venue’s legendary 2-4-1 happy hour being honoured - making it one of the most-accessible and intimate opportunities for Londoners to enjoy breaking new bands and solo performers.

If landlord and developer Capital & Counties (Capco) is given planning permission by Westminster City Council to develop part of the building, the venue will have to close. Since the news broke, over 12,000 people have signed a petition calling on Westminster City Council to save The Roadhouse from eviction, with names being added almost every minute.
