Atlas Wynd Suffer Shellshock

Atlas Wynd (Peter Chapman, Harry Sotnick and Sam Evans) have unleashed new single ‘Shellshock’, taken from their forthcoming Liam Watson (The White Stripes) produced EP. Following April’s explosive cut, which premiered on Huw Stephens’ Radio 1 show, ‘Helpless’ went on to become his BBC Introducing Tip Of The Week and picked up plays from 38 local shows, including BBC 6Music’s Tom Robinson.

Swaggering guitars set the scene on ‘Shellshock’, with Toe Rag Studios’ analogue edge giving each distorted stab a boldness way beyond the band’s years. Having already made a solid impact on their growing scene, Atlas Wynd have recently launched their own music night in Brighton and are set to release their full EP later this year.

‘Shellshock’ has been a part of the band’s live repertoire for a while now, but this latest iteration sees the song taking on a much more refined arrangement. Written about the unnecessarily controversial opinion that people may still have good ‘reason and justification for their words and actions’ even though they appear to be outwardly different and difficult to understand, Peter’s powerful words encourage the listener to be a little more understanding. Following slots at Glastonbury, Great Escape, Y Not Festival and regular appearances at Brighton’s Green Door Store, Atlas Wynd have firmly established themselves as a promising name to look out for in the not too distant future.

Denton Thrift Release Sight EP

Leeds based duo, Denton Thrift, combine rich vocal harmonies with deep layered synths and environmental percussion. Built upon a wonderfully sparse sound, Denton Thrift captivate with lacquered melodies atop a blanket of intricate synth chords. Hailing from Northern Ireland and Devon the pair met while studying music at the University of Leeds. They first began song writing during their year abroad in Denton, Texas, later using this as inspiration for their name.

They have released new single and debut EP, both titled ‘Sight’, via Majestic Records. ‘Sight’ is the third track from the EP and follows the release of ‘Something Real’ and ‘Confessional’. The band says about the track, “‘Sight’ highlights the way depression clouds and obscures the ability to remain objective in difficult circumstances. Through consolation and reassurance the narrative leads towards resolution, culminating in a choral soundscape that expresses the ambivalence of emancipation.”

“The EP draws on a series of conversations surrounding mental health and how it affects relationships while obscuring self reflection, thus not allowing for beneficial change. Journeying between crisis and realisation ‘Sight’ explores the hardships of emotional introspection during a period of immense personal distress.”
