BABii Unleashes The Beast

Following the release of her debut LP last year, Margate-based artist & producer BABii has just announced a new EP iii, which is set for release March 27. The first single from the record ‘Beast’ is streaming online now.

Speaking about the new track, BABii said "‘Beast’ is about being far away in proximity from someone but still feeling emotionally close to them, and realising the opposite could be much worse, being in close proximity to someone but emotionally feeling distant from them."

BABii’s debut album HiiDE came out in July last year, but she has not stopped creating. In September she released XYZ, a collaborative album with fellow GLOO members Iglooghost and Kai Whiston; a glitchy electronic work described as “the year’s most brilliantly alienating album” by Loud & Quiet. Following UK/EU tours with Chk Chk Chk and WHY? she joined up with GLOO again for a sold out London edition of their interactive clubnight Grid. BABii built the machines in which attendees inserted tokens that had been hidden around the club to change the music and visuals onstage.

Speaking about the new EP, BABii said "iii is three songs about the proximity of three different people in my life. One who I don’t want in my proximity, another who wants me out of theirs and one who I want in mine."

The Grey Merchant Enter The Anthropocene

The Grey Merchant announce the release their second album, The Claude Glass, on Friday. Recorded during the second half of 2019, the five-piece band based in Cork, present an eclectic mix of guitar-driven tracks exploring social and personal themes, with all five members contributing to the song-writing duties, and collaborations with Pete Mac (Paradox) and Kieran Ring (Neon Atlas).

Mixed by Ciarán O’Shea (Cyclefly, Bush) at Whitewell Studios Berlin, and mastered at Abbey Road Studios with Alex Wharton (Pixies, My Bloody Valentine, Chemical Brothers), The Claude Glass reflects diverse influences from Kyuss to John Grant to Public Service Broadcasting.

Their single ‘Anthropocene’ expands on the pop and indie tendencies of the group, packing melody and drama into their new track. The album goes on release this Friday, with the band celebrating the occasion with a rare live performance at Cork’s Crane Lane Theatre on March 2 at 11 pm.
