Megan Davies Releases Black Mirror-Inspired Video

Alt-pop newcomer Megan Davies has released a Black Mirror-inspired video for her new single ‘Gimme’, which visually explores the toxicities within social media outlets. Having first gained success via YouTube herself, Megan came up with the concept of the video born out of the things you see happening online every day. Playing out scenes of make-up tutorials, gaming fails to epic guitar solos, Megan is enticed into entering this freakish world where users are caught up in the obsessions of being liked, followed and becoming a YouTube star.

The video premiered with Celebmix where Megan explained, “The concept of the video began as “YouTuber Purgatory”, where creators get trapped by the online persona they create.  It’s something that I’ve feared for myself as a YouTuber. It’s easy to get boxed in as a musician - whether your platform is a show like American Idol or doing covers on YouTube. Before you know it, everything you create is dictated by the image that’s been curated online. It can be a struggle to maintain authenticity.”

Megan’s creative acoustic covers and mashups rapidly gained traction online as her YouTube views and subscribers grew in their millions. Tracks like her three-song mashup ‘See You Again/ Love Me Like You Do/ Sugar’ has had over 60 million video plays and reached #1 on both the US and Global Spotify Viral 50 charts.

Breaking out from covers, Megan first introduced fans to her gorgeous alt-pop style with her 2017 debut EP, Bad Poetry, which was released independently. Later this month she will be back in the UK on her headline tour where she will play Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham, Cardiff and London before heading off across Europe.

Queen Zee Debut Album Out Friday

With their self-titled, debut album out tomorrow and an eight date UK set for February, dynamic Merseyside noise punk outfit Queen Zee have released their latest single, ‘Loner’, out now via the band’s own label Sasstone Records.

The tongue-in-cheek album opener is a bouncing, ska-infused anthem and firm live favourite full of Queen Zee’s unique brand of sass. The anarchic, enigmatic band have rapidly established a cult following over the last year as they continue to defy conventions and subvert what it means to be a band. The album’s 10 racing tracks perfectly capture the mania of their now-infamous live show, and firmly cements them as torch-bearers of a new generation of British guitar bands.

2018 was an explosive year for Queen Zee, culminating in a full UK tour in support of Dream Wife and a riotous hometown headline show in Liverpool. Queen Zee won PRS Flash Funding at The Great Escape Festival, which enabled them to put their madness into this debut record, and were also awarded PRS Momentum Funding to continue the journey. Fronted by the peculiar and direct Zena Davine (aka Queen Zee), the band is completed by co-founding member and multi-instrumentalist Jason Taylor-Brown, Frankie Wortho (Bass & Vocals), Ash Summers (Keys, Percussion & Vocals) and Dave Bloom (Drums & Percussion).
