Cabbage Announce Debut Album

  • Published in News

Nihilistic Glamour Shots is the debut album from Cabbage, to be released March 30 on Infectious Music. Produced by James Skelly and Rich Turvey (Blossoms, The Coral, She Drew The Gun) at Parr Street Studios in Liverpool, Nihilistic Glamour Shots is an album that confirms Cabbage as one of the most nuanced bands in years. Equally drawn to socialist politics and mucking about, they’re devotees of both big choruses and anarchic totems like GG Allin, Genesis P Orridge and Butthole Surfers.

There’s been a weight of fevered expectation around a full Cabbage album ever since their startling debut EP, Le Chou arrived at the start of 2016. Since then, the Manchester band have released 36 songs, played well over 200 gigs.

Cabbage formed in Mossley, a small town on the edge of the Pennines nine miles east of Manchester, in November 2015. Co-vocalist Lee Broadbent and Eoghan Clifford (guitar) had been drummers in their previous bands, while Joe Martin (co-vocalist) was a promising performance poet. Hilariously twisted live staple ‘Dinner Lady’ from ‘Le Chou’ was initially one of Joe’s poems. Bassist Steve Evans had the most experience, having been in several bands before adding his beatific calm and fluid playing to Cabbage. Drummer Asa Morley was the last to join, recruited in early 2016.

Cabbage head out on tour later this month, supported by The Rhythm Method, and will embark on more dates in April following the release of the album with support from She Drew The Gun. On May 19, the band will curate ‘Glamour At Thee Ritz’ at Manchester’s O2 Ritz. Starting at 5pm and headlined by Cabbage, the event across 2 rooms at The Ritz will feature PINS, The Blinders, Rhythm Method, Witch Fever, Lady Bird, Sports Team + more to be announced over the coming weeks.

Cabbage Share New Video For ‘Celebration Of A Disease’

  • Published in News

Cabbage have today aired the new video for ‘Celebration Of A Disease’, lifted from the forthcoming EP The Extended Play Of Cruelty, to be released on August 25 on CD, Cassette and 10 inch vinyl, and available to stream now. The Manchester band recently premiered EP track ‘A Network Betrayal’, described as “a tongue firmly in cheek depiction of train travel in Northern England,” by Cabbage co-vocalist Joe Martin. “When my brother (who actually works for Network Rail) heard it he told me to 'buy a fucking ticket'. The more kind hearted rail staff I bump into, the guiltier I feel about writing it, but studying the varying behavioural traits of different conductors has always been fascinating. All quotes are genuine, having been frantically scribbled down during journeys.”

The Extended Play Of Cruelty EP was produced by James Skelly and Richard Turvey at Liverpool’s Parr Street Studios, and is Cabbage’s first release since signing to new label Infectious Music (Alt-J, Drenge, DMA’s). Cabbage’s busy summer of festival appearances, which kicked off with two shows at Glastonbury (watch their performance on the John Peel Stage here) and a raucous set at Latitude Festival (where they headlined The Lake Stage), continues this weekend with sets at Kendal & Standon Calling.

Having sold out every headline date they have played this year, Cabbage have announced details of a headline tour for September & October 2017. They will be supported by Doncaster’s The Blinders, Liverpool’s Queen Zee and The Sasstones, and Proletariat, from Cabbage’s hometown of Mossley, Greater Manchester.
