Bonnacons Of Doom Announce New EP

  • Published in News

Liverpool collective Bonnacons of Doom return with their first new music since 2018’s critically acclaimed debut album. Whether congregating in dimly lit halls or in forests, mysterious forces are channelled by the shifting collective known as Bonnacons of Doom, intent on psychic communion by any means necessary. The band’s arcane conjury operates stubbornly free of genre, sashaying alongside psych-rock, repetitive drone and electronic experimentation whilst consumed by a devotional intensity that’s multiplied by the transcendental echoing of vocalist Kate Smith.

This new four-track EP features a brand new composition called ‘Esus’ and three remixes of songs taken from their debut album. First track ‘Esus’ starts with an ominous fuzz riff that draws the listener deep into the world of Bonnacons of Doom. Kate’s pagan-esque, repetitive vocal collides head on with the cacophony of doomed guitars and synths.

JD Twitch – one half of the Scottish DJ / label owners and NTS resident team Optimo – has turned album opener ‘Solus’ into a sub-bass heavy, psychedelic, caveman stomp of the highest order. Dance floors will crumble under the pure weight of this repetitive monster.

Track three sees Liars (aka Angus Andrew) take Bonnacons’ track ‘Industria’ and deconstruct it into looping drones of noise, feedback and subtle melodies.

Finally, sonic explorers Capac take the track ‘Solus’ and strip it back to an otherworldly, minimalist soundscape of fuzz, voice and stripped back percussion.

The band are donning their masks and robes and heading out for some shows in support of the EP:

30 Aug / Manchester Psych Festival / Manchester

17 Sep / Huddersfield / The Parish

18 Sep / London / The Lexington
