God Damn Issue High Frequency Words

  • Published in News

Black Country rock trio God Damn have shared the next track from their freshly announced self-titled album; ‘High Frequency Words’ is reminiscent of The Eighties Matchbox B-line Disaster, it bolts the listener into submission, possessing all the power of a heavy rock classic but encased within a pop framework.

“There is freedom of speech and there is being knowingly, unacceptably offensive. You should balance politics and identity” said vocalist Thomas Edwards, talking about the new single. This has always been God Damn’s charm, but on album three their unique magnetism and rock flair is well and truly honed. They are a band that have come into their own, writing and releasing on their own terms and without submitting to expectation.

At the same time as recording the album, former Catholic chorister Thomas Edward was suspended from his teaching job for destroying bibles. “It really wasn't even that satanic, I felt that little baptised choir boy kick in as I was ‘recycling’ them and said "Lord have mercy on me". A colleague filmed the whole thing and a member of staff emailed it into the school, pretending to be a put-out parent. I think I saw it as separating the state from religion.” Themes of religion, spirituality, society and politics permeate throughout their forthcoming self-titled album out February 14 on One Little Indian Records, with a UK tour to accompany its release.

“I consider it a right of mine to bring these ideals into question, considering my upbringing. How can I debate, and even bash Western pseudo Christian views and get away with it? How dare I? I can because that's MY history to mull over, I'm not sorry if that offends you. As my Catholic grandfather said "God Damn...I'm not sure I can get on with this Thomas, but at least you're not denying the existence of God with that band name"... Okay grandad, if that's what you want to believe...it's just a name isn't it?”

Bad Breeding Release Whose Cause?

  • Published in News

Stevenage anarcho-punks Bad Breeding have released the second part of their direct message in video form from their new album, Exiled, scheduled for release on One Little Indian Records on June 21. The collage video was created by Owen Deutsch of D4MT Labs and NYC punks, Kaleidoscope.

“‘Whose Cause?’ explores political misdirection in the media and its role in sowing seeds of division, suspicion and distrust in our communities,” explains front man Christopher Dodd. “It touches on the nefarious ties between capital and a pocketed media class, while commenting on how instruments of the right have harnessed and manipulated divisive politics of identity in an attempt to dent the collective bonds of solidarity that bind our communities together. It’s about pushing beyond force-fed narratives and looking at the disastrous implications reactionary storytelling has on propping up the survival of late capitalism and the patrician outriders it funds and protects: the gilded bourgeoisie, the imperialists, the warmongers, the contemptuous old-money hawks, the emboldened corporate elite.”

The news cycle as it exists in 2019 – rapid, permanently mutating, consistently grotesque – equally blesses and curses Bad Breeding. A group with a keen eye for social injustice and establishment venality, expressed in hollered tones over a full-throttle, enervating soundclash of anarcho punk, hardcore and noiserock, ‘Exiled’ was fuelled by the last 12 months in (primarily) British politics: a nation circling the drain while forever eyeing the plughole.

UK Tour dates:

July 21st – Crofter’s Rights, Bristol

July 22nd – The Polar Bear, Hull

July 23rd – Temple of Boom, Leeds

July 24th – The Moon, Cardiff

July 25th – Electrowerkz, London
