Nice Biscuit’s Dreamy New Video

  • Published in News

Electrifying and cinematic, Nice Biscuit is Australia’s newest DIY psych-garage export, an intergalactic six-piece fronted by two ethereal, time travelling space kittens. The sextet made their debut in Brisbane in 2016 and quickly gained a reputation for their kaleidoscopic live shows.

Following the release of their debut album, Digital Mountain in late 2018, the garage outfit have returned with their latest single ‘Goodbye Luya,’ a more relaxed approach to their music drawing influences from ‘60s surf, psych and Krautrock. The sound is pure Biscuit — lush, Technicolor and out of this world.

Arising from a forced departure from a long held sharehouse ‘Goodbye Luya’ sees the DIY enthusiasts paying homage to the decrepit and derelict residence that the band was conceived and grew up in. Layered in lush guitars, four part vocals harmonies and washed out synth this latest single sees Nice Biscuit incorporate new sounds and ideas to push out of their comfort zone and into unfamiliar territory.

The two lead singers, Grace Cuell and Billie Star (Billie Violet Flaming Star Gibbs Heatherington on her birth certificate) are best friends. They both sang in their respective school choirs, and were introduced by a mutual friend who knew they would hit it off. The first time they hung out, they played guitar together, and bonded over a cover of a Laura Marling tune. They say they are cut from the same velvety, sequinned cloth; creative soul mates. Together, they design and sew their own costumes, inspired by ‘60s and ‘70s style in a ‘90s colour palette.
