Lucy Dacus Announces Solo Tour

  • Published in News

Lucy Dacus has announced her first-ever UK and European solo shows this Spring. She plays Union Chapel in London and CCA in Glasgow on May 1 and 4, respectively, alongside further European dates. Returning to the UK following a sold-out performance at EartH in June, the dates are an opportunity to see one of today’s most captivating and fast-rising singer-songwriters in an unmediated, intimate setting.

The Richmond, VA artist recently added another vital entry to her ever-growing oeuvre with 2019, a dazzling collection of original and cover songs inspired by holidays and notable dates of the year. The EP was met with widespread critical acclaim, with Pitchfork calling the songs “among the best she’s ever written”.

The end of the year saw Dacus’ latest album Historian appear in Best Of The Decade lists by Rolling Stone, NPR, Stereogum, Consequence Of Sound and others, alongside making her inaugural performance on Austin City Limits, and being brought on stage by Lana Del Ray for a joint rendition of her song ‘Night Shift’.

Lucy Dacus’ Punk Cover Of ‘Last Christmas’

  • Published in News

Ringing in the festive season, Lucy Dacus has released a cover of Wham!’s ‘Last Christmas’. Following the release of acclaimed holiday-themed singles ‘La Vie En Rose’, ‘My Mother & I’, ‘Forever Half Mast’, ‘Dancing In The Dark’, and ‘In The Air Tonight’ throughout the year, ‘Last Christmas’ is the sixth installment taken from Dacus’ 2019 EP that is out November 8 on Matador Records. The EP will also feature a yet unreleased original tribute to New Year’s titled ‘Fools Gold’. A special bundle set of the 2019 EP and a limited edition, clear vinyl pressing of Dacus’s breakthrough 2018 album Historian will be available through the Matador Records webstore.

Sped-up, amped-up and delivered through a megaphone to chugging abandon, Dacus’ reworking imbues the jumper-sporting classic with a spontaneous energy that turns it playfully on its head. “I don't really like Christmas,” says Dacus. “In the studio, we listened to the original of ‘Last Christmas’ and didn't talk about an arrangement. I just told everyone to play it angry. This is what happened first take. It actually came out pretty fun, maybe a tad psychotic.”

Following the release of her universally acclaimed second album Historian and revered collaborative project boygenius with Julien Baker and Phoebe Bridgers, 2019 has seen Dacus tour across Australia, Europe and North America, receive continuous support across BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music, grace the stages of festivals including Primavera, Best Kept Secret and Hopscotch and make her Austin City Limits debut. She has recently penned op-eds for the New York Times and Vanity Fair, and expounded on the unique approach of the 2019 song series in a recent interview with Spotify For Artists.

1. Fool's Gold

2. La Vie En Rose

3. My Mother & I

4. Forever Half Mast
