  • Published in News

Dublin's Fontaines D.C. continue their rapid upward trajectory having just been announced as BBC Radio 6 Music's Album of the Year for their critically acclaimed debut album, Dogrel (Partisan Records).

The win follows the band's shortlisting for the Mercury Prize 2019, their album being named Rough Trade's Album of the Year, charting at #9 in the official UK album chart, as well as a sold out US tour with labelmates IDLES, an electrifying performance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, a mind-blowing Glastonbury 2019 performance, yet another BBC 6 Music A listing for their fan-favourite single ‘Boys In The Better Land’; and the announcement of their now sold-out Brixton Academy headline show for Feb 2020.

The band have toured extensively over the last year selling out every date of their own EU and UK headline tours in December 2018, January 2019, April 2019, November 2019 as well as their forthcoming dates in December 2019 and January 2020. They also recently completed their first run of sold-out headline US shows (supported by Pottery) in September and are currently midway through their sold-out November UK arena tour (sold out 6 months in advance). Additionally the band have just sold-out their biggest Irish show to-date at Iveagh Gardens, Dublin.

Fontaines D.C. have also recently announced their first New Zealand and Australian live appearances as part of St Jerome's Laneway Festival 20, which will see them perform showcases across the country.

6music Live Broadcast For Record Store Day

  • Published in News

6 Music’s Lauren Laverne is bringing her popular mid-morning show to Vinyl Tap Records in Huddersfield next Friday to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Record Store Day. She’ll be joined by a number of special guests including spoken word artist Kate Tempest, Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor and poet Simon Armitage. There’ll be some live music from local band Fold, and a Desert Island Disco in honour of Prince to mark the year anniversary since his death.

Kate Tempest will tell all about being a Record Store Day Ambassador and being in charge of this year’s Brighton Festival. She will also give an exclusive preview of a special track she recorded straight to vinyl at Abbey Road Studios to celebrate RSD. Alexis Taylor will host a live Desert Island Disco in honour of Prince to mark the one year anniversary of his death, and Simon Armitage will talk through his connections in the local area and his Record Store Day collaboration with Leeds indie rock group, The Wedding Present.

Lauren also welcomes local band Fold who’ll be live in session. Encompassing funk, jazz, soul and psyche, they’ll be bringing their fusion of music and archive recordings along for a special performance at Vinyl Tap. The store will still be open to the public and visitors are welcome to watch the show being made, subject to space.

Presented in association with BBC Music, this is the second time 6 Music has hit the road to celebrate all things vinyl, following their visit to Brighton last year with Fat Boy Slim and Tim Burgess.

Lauren Laverne, 6 Music presenter, said: “The 10th anniversary of Record Store Day is going to be a hugely special day, and I’m so pleased to be marking the occasion in Huddersfield at one of the most iconic record stores with some of the most talented people in the industry.” Record Store Day launched in the UK in 2008 and is the one day of the year when over 200 independent record shops all across the UK come together to celebrate their unique culture.
