Outsider’s 'Míol Mór Mara’ Out Now

Brand new Warner Music signing Outsider has released his first single ‘Míol Mór Mara’ through the label’s W Songs. ‘Míol Mór Mara’ finds the Irish singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and punk poet incorporating driving guitar and bold thoughtful vocals, reminiscent of the likes of Bruce Springsteen or The War On Drugs. Featuring lyricism in both English and Gaeilge, the Dublin singer also pulls together orchestral strings and a punk-influenced rhythm on the new single.

‘Míol Mór Mara’ means ‘sea whales’, and translates literally into English as ‘giant beasts of the sea’. Regarding the single Outsider says, “The song is about a child with downs syndrome I worked with when I was suffering from huge heartbreak and it had a profound influence on my life. The kid was so inspiring and pulled me out of a dark place really just by spending time with him. It's got a lot of biblical references to Jonah and The Whale, which is symbolic of diving into the sea of the unknown and becoming something far greater than yourself in a spiritual sense."

The song is featured in the soundtrack of FIFA 18, and marks the first time ever that the Irish language has been introduced into mainstream video gaming. His music has also recently been featured in the Netflix’s Shadowhunters. Outsider takes his name from the song by the Ramones and Colin Wilson’s controversial book The Outsider. His songwriting is deeply thoughtful and enticingly intelligent, matched by rich Americana-tinged guitar music, and is set to captivate hearts and minds across the globe.

Julie & The Wrong Guys Album Video

Julie & The Wrong Guys are a new Canadian band fronted by Julie Doiron of Eric’s Trip & featuring the rhythm section of Cancer Bats. Following the disbanding of Eric's Trip in 1996, the career of Juno-winner & Polaris Prize-nominee Doiron has taken in over 10 albums (issued variously by the likes of Jagjaguwar and Sub Pop), alongside collaborative projects with Mount Eerie and Okkervill River. Whilst Doiron has cemented her 'Godmother of Canadian indie rock' creds down the years with nuanced, restrained songwriting, Julie & The Wrong Guys is actually a belting return to her garage rock roots. This new project finds Julie partnering up with Mike Peters & Jay Schwarzer of Cancer Bats' rhythm section - the titular 'Wrong Guys' - alongside the fuzzed-out guitar sounds of fellow Canadian Eamon McGrath.

Julie & The Wrong Guys are airing a new video accompaniment to their self-titled debut LP. Doiron first enlisted The Wrong Guys as her backing band in 2011 during a two-year stint living in Toronto. While working at the Bloor West coffee shop, café, and venue Saving Gigi, she asked them to join her for a series of shows. Finding an immediate comfort and chemistry, the quartet hit the studio to record a two-song 7”, then set off for high profile tours throughout Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes.

“All of the collaborations I’ve done over the last 24 years have taken me to the next place, whether I’ve realized I’m learning something or not,” says Doiron. “They helped me learn how everybody’s process is different, but working with these guys is super easy. Even if I never collaborated I could have just breezed into this band. Whatever is going on in my life before meeting up with them, I don’t feel stressed out or like I have a million things to do. We just make music and it’s super fun.”
